Even though I'm generally a supporter of Microsoft, this article is very funny. I don't think the retail store is a good idea for them however.

#1 - Sat Feb 14, 2009 2:32 PM ESTIt seems strange for a company that makes most of its money through software would have a store dedicated to just its products. Microsoft just doesn't have enough of a hardware brand identity to make a store that anyone would really think of as the place to go. They'll be competing with more general-purpose electronic and software stores like Best Buy.
Apple's stores are unique in that they sell mostly hardware, and that hardware has a clear brand identity that is consistent across their product lines. In other words, all of their stuff fits together nicely in a consistent way. That just makes a retail store make a lot more sense for Apple than it does for Microsoft.
I predict that this idea will fail.
